The new Back on Track cafe is open for business!

The building of a new café marks a huge step forward in terms of how we can deliver training courses in catering and hospitality, the sector with the highest level of interest among our service users. The new in-house café space, equipped to a commercial café standard, will enable our service users to gain realistic, hands-on experience of working in a professional catering environment, helping them to transition more readily to jobs in the sector. The new café will also be a buzzing social space serving drinks, snacks and lunches to service users, volunteers and staff. We successfully secured funding from nine charitable trusts to build the café, all new supporters of Back on Track. Most recently, we were awarded £16,750 from Trusthouse Charitable Foundation, bringing our total fundraising to a whopping £40,000.

The refurbishment happened over July and August, with the first coffee sold in September.

The cafe was created to give people who have lived through major problems the experience and skills they need to find work. Since we opened THREE of our brilliant volunteers have already found themselves full paid employment, including Alex, who landed a job as a sous chef at one of Manchester’s top bars.

‘Back on Track has helped me get over social anxiety…it is a great thing to put on your CV. I owe a lot to the Catering Coordinator Rachel as she supported me throughout. If it wasn’t for my time at Back on Track I wouldn’t be able to move on with my life and I am really grateful for everything.’
