what we offer

Back on Track centre (formerly known as MERC)
Our education and training centre in Manchester city centre provides courses and guidance for adults (over 18) who, are going through a process of rehabilitation or resettlement.  Courses include basic skills (reading and writing and maths), computers, cookery, art, as well as sessions on ‘life skills’ such as cookery and personal finance, and courses that will help learners progress onto other opportunities.  We aim to help all our students to move on to something positive such as volunteering, paid work, or further education. More about the centre

Outreach courses in your venue
We also provide courses on an ‘outreach’ basis in hostels, day centres and probation offices in Greater Manchester. The aim of the Outreach sessions is to engage with people who would not normally attend an adult education centre, with the aim of gradually introducing them to our Back on Track centre. More about Outreach

Mentoring
We run a scheme to match up volunteer mentors with ex-offenders who are looking to get into employment. More about mentoring

Rebuilding Lives Task Group
Back on Track hosts ‘Rebuilding Lives’, a project to promote meaningful activities within homelessness provision in Manchester. Rebuilding Lives aims to generate and disseminate new initiatives and examples of good practice in meaningful activities for homeless people. More about Rebuilding Lives

Information on good practice
Back on Track occasionally publishes free research and ‘good practice’ guides related to working with marginalised adults. Have a look at our Publications section for current resources.
