My student placement helped me to have confidence

Before starting my 70 day social work placement at Back and Track for my second year for my university degree, I was very anxious about working in a professional environment due to having no experience previously. I found that I easily settled in and fitted within the placement and I found the staff at Back on Track were very supportive.

The placement has really helped me improve my skills and knowledge in several areas and it has prepared me for my next placement that starts in November and for my future practice as a Social Worker.  I am now able to conduct a phone call professionally without support, before placement I would freeze when I hear the phone ring or shy away when asked to make a phone call. I am now able to confidently approach people in the centre without shying away and becoming nervous.

The placement has helped increase my confidence drastically in my own abilities and within myself. I would like to give a big thank you to all the service users and Inspiring Change Manchester members for being so understanding and patient with me when I have worked with them.

Working on the Inspiring Change project helped me reconnect with my creative side of myself as I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in all activities that were held for the service users. I cannot thank Back on Track enough for a wonderful fulfilling experience they have given me.

I am going to really miss this place, especially all the service users and volunteers I met along the way. I really enjoyed working here as I felt part of a family. I hope I can return in the near future.

I would like to say thank you to everyone at Back on Track and I wish you all the very best!

Kimberley Millington.
