Winning the ‘best volunteer involving charity’ at the recent Spirit of Manchester awards was a real thrill for us. We’re really proud of the role our volunteers play, especially as more than half are former service users who are volunteering to get new skills and to give something back. So it was fantastic to get recognition for this.
The awards ceremony itself was great fun, with each winner decided on the night by the audience, using electronic voting buttons. Before the vote a short video was shown about each nominated organisation – ours had been made by our cafe volunteer Daryl. The photo below shows Daryl (3rd from the left) receiving the award from Manchester’s Lord Mayor Carl Austin-Behan. Scroll down further to see Daryl’s video. Before making it he’d never done any kind of filming or editing, so it’s really something to be proud of.
